As 2008 comes to an end, even more local organizations are making an effort to serve their communities.
The Plymouth and South Shore Association of Realtors ended 2008 on a high note by presenting Habitat for Humanity of Greater Plymouth and South Shore Habitat for Humanity a check for $10,000 each in December.
The PASS Community Service Committee, the charitable arm of PASS consisting of 22 volunteer Realtor and affiliate members, duplicated the popular television show “Dancing With the Stars.” PASS paired 16 members with professional dance instructors to compete against each other in the name of charity. This is the second event PASS organized for Habitat for Humanity resulting in PASS donating more than $57,000 to Habitat for Humanity in 13 months.
In recognition of the holiday season, the charitable arm of Canton-based OneBeacon Insurance Co. has made a $12,000 donation to the Greater Boston Food Bank, the largest hunger-relief organization in New England and one of the largest food banks in the country.
The OneBeacon Charitable Trust has made contributions to 15 food banks across the country serving areas where OneBeacon has a strong presence. A total of $50,000 has been donated on behalf of OneBeacon employees through the OneBeacon Charitable Trust.
Needham Bank’s annual Stockings of Joy campaign ended. The bank collected more than 120 stockings filled with gifts from public donations, all of which will be distributed by Riverside Community Care to those in need of a thoughtful gift during the holidays.
Customers and non-customers alike visited the bank’s five branches in Needham, Dedham, Wellesley, Westwood and Medfield to take part in the charity.
