Local banks and the Massachusetts Bankers Association have begun their holiday fundraising and donation efforts.

The MBA is donating $122,000 in community grants to 30 nonprofit agencies across the Bay State.

Eastern Bank is expanding food-assistance efforts in Massachusetts in response to increased demand this holiday season by donating $100,000 to food pantries and soup kitchens.

Mechanics Cooperative Bank has donated $1,000 to the St. Thomas Aquinas Society of Saint Vincent de Paul to help provide food and shelter to those in need in Bridgewater. The bank said its gift will support the society’s food pantry and fuel-assistance programs.
