Newton-based REIT Hospitality Properties Trust has reported net income of $32.9 million in the third quarter, compared to $142.4 million in the same period last year, a 76.9 percent decline.

Year-to-date, the company reported $56.6 million in net income, compared to $228.2 million for the same period a year ago.

During the quarter ended Sept. 30, TravelCenters of America LLC exercised its option to defer up to $5 million of rent per month under the previously announced rent deferral agreement, which resulted in a $15 million reduction in net income available for common shareholders, the company said.
