Victory Housing on Warren Street, a project that will provide permanent housing for 14 chronically homeless individuals in a rehabbed site in Roxbury, has been completed.
The development was designed under the Dorchester-based non-profit Victory Programs’ pilot housing program called the “Housing First” Initiative, with the intention to stabilize the lives of homeless individuals and their families through permanent housing, according to Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino.
Brought back from the brink of foreclosure in 2007 through the efforts of the Department of Neighborhood Development (DND), the Boston Housing Authority (BHA) and Victory Programs, the property at 250 – 254 Warren St. has since undergone comprehensive exterior and interior renovations, including new electrical, plumbing and HVAC systems, as well as a new roof, new windows and a new gutter system. The rehabilitated building also boasts a common meeting space and several counseling areas.
Funding for the $900,000 renovation was made possible through a variety of funding sources, including a loan of more than $200,000 from DND’s Leading the Way housing fund. Additionally, Boston Capital Corp. provided a $350,000 loan, Massachusetts Department of Housing and Community Development contributed a loan of $230,000, and Victory also received a $75,000 grant from Mass Housing.
