The groundbreaking for a new 25,000-square-foot Special Olympics training center in Marlborough will coincide with the first day of Disabilities Awareness month, Oct. 1.
Special Olympics Massachusetts (SOMA) has already raised $5.8 million for the new center, which will be named the Yawkey Sports Training Center. A capital campaign is currently underway to raise the remainder of the funds needed to make the project a reality by fall 2009. The total cost of the building will be $10.8 million, the organization said.
