Boston has been listed as the ninth-most expensive place to live in the country, on a list dominated by California communities.
The 2008 Coldwell Banker Home Price Comparison Index ranks La Jolla, Calif. number one in terms of average home price. The average Boston home rings in at $1.49 million, compared to $1,841,667 in La Jolla. Wellesley was number 13 on the list, with average home prices of $1.2 million, joining Greenwich and Boston as the only non-California cities to top the $1 million mark. The most affordable city in the Bay State is Worcester with an average home price of $269,333.
Greenwich, Conn. was the only other non-California city to make it onto the top-10 list of most expensive communities. Greenwich ranked second on the list, with the average single-family home selling for $1.78 million.
Sioux City, Iowa, was the least expensive community in the nation, with an average single-family home price of just $133,459, according to the report.
